Filipino Govt lost P182m on new horse-racing tax

track-night-shotThe government has lost as much as P182 million since 2001 after it opted to tax the horse-racing industry with the 12 percent value-added tax instead of the 25 percent franchise tax, data show.

Gary Player to Design Golf Course in Mexico

garyplayer1MEXICO CITY — South African golfing legend Gary Player, the builder of more than 200 golf courses worldwide, will make his debut in Mexico on a tourist project on the Baja California peninsula, project investors announced Thursday.

Average prices at the Karaka yearling sales may be down 25% this year but a Taranaki dairy farmer still spent $875,000 on two closely related colts in the space of five minutes today.

The English Open at St Mellion postponed until 2011

The English Open golf championship, due to be staged at the St Mellion International Resort in Cornwall this summer, has been postponed for two years due to delays incurred by a third-party developer as a result of the credit crunch.

Crown Golf, the resort’s owner, and the European Tour confirmed that the event will now return in 2011 after it was revealed that a golf and holiday homes scheme led by Living Villages has run into financial difficulties. Read the rest of this entry »
