The Singapore Turf Club has granted visiting jockey’s licences to jockeys Francis Berry from Ireland and Richard Fourie from South Africa.

HANOI — With its small horses and tiny jockeys, racing at Vietnam’s only track is a low-key affair receiving high-level attention as officials threaten a crackdown on under-age riders.

The National Preventative Health Task Force is calling for an end to all alcohol advertising associated with sporting teams and arenas and during live TV broadcasts.

HONG KONG (AFP) — The Hong Kong government said Friday it has approved a proposal to add five extra meetings to the horse racing season in a bid to lure punters away from the glitzy casinos of its neighbouring cities.

Carrie Yau, permanent secretary for home affairs, said the change, which would extend the season from 78 to 83 meetings, was necessary to boost the city’s economy and tourism due to the fierce competition from places such as Macau and Singapore. Read the rest of this entry »
